Home Office Immigration Surveys

Home Office Survey

If you live in rented accommodation and are wishing to bring a non-UK resident to live with you, you may have been asked by the Home Office or UK Immigration Services to provide a building survey on the size, condition and nature of where intend to live.

They will usually also want a basic floor plan with the room sizes indicated so that they can assess whether you have sufficient space available.

Your Building Condition Survey will include an assessment of the following:

  • Floor plan
  • Heating
  • Electrical installation
  • Washing facilities and sanitary conveniences
  • Facilities for the storage, preparation and cooking of food
  • Means of escape from fie and other appropriate fire precautions
  • Room sizes
  • Wall structure
  • Structural integrity of the building
  • Roof structure and covering, including chimneys if any
  • Doors and windows
  • Floors and internal staircases
  • Damp proofing
  • Condensation
  • Thermal insulation
  • Other factors that may be relevant to the accommodation
